Key findings

Guilfoyle, the $100,000 credit card demand, and the "no paper trail"

The Habba-Grenell fight: $50 million job, pardons, and the Kennedy Center money

The Kushner book excerpt: Dutch spies, hacked phones, and $2 billion in Gulf money

Broader pattern: Trump's own enrichment, crypto, and the Qatar jet

The Comey prosecutions: a third criminal case

The Trump administration entered the final stretch of 2026 with a corruption story that has no single center because it has too many to count. In the space of a single month, the public record filled up with a former ambassador who texted a Republican donor to wire $100,000 to her American Express card and urged her not to leave a paper trail; a fired ambassador's replacement as the Department of Homeland Security bought multiple airplanes from a donor to the outgoing secretary at apparently inflated prices; a Russian oligarch paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for parts of Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding celebration; a wealthy Turkish investor's multimillion-dollar transfer became the subject of a fistfight between two Trump allies over who misallocated it; and a former Justice Department adviser accepted a $50 million job from a Venezuelan banker weeks before that banker received a pardon he had been seeking.

The Kushner allegations from Vanity Fair's excerpt of Matthew Cole's forthcoming book "Princes and Thieves" dwarf even that pattern. Dutch military intelligence captured Jared Kushner's iPhone screen from early 2018 and watched him log into a UAE bank account that had received hundreds of millions of dollars routed through an Azerbaijani bank. UAE ruler Mohamed bin Zayed and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman put at least $2 billion into accounts Kushner could access, including one holding roughly $750 million on which he was allegedly a signatory, and an additional $1 billion transferred to an account at the Bank of Israel with Netanyahu's help. Kushner called the allegations "completely insane" and "outrageous fabrications," but provided no bank statements, wire transfer records, account numbers, or transaction dates.

What to watch next: the October 27 publication date of Cole's book, whether Kushner follows through on threatened legal action against Vanity Fair and Simon & Schuster, the midterm-election implications of a corruption story that has touched the ambassador to Greece, the former US attorney for New Jersey, the former Venezuela envoy, the Department of Homeland Security, and the president's own son-in-law, and whether any of it produces a criminal referral or an inspector general report.
